Product Engineer, Npi, Product Operations

This role is for a Product Engineer focused on New Product Introduction (NPI) within Google's Manufacturing Operations team. The engineer will be responsible for developing manufacturing plans, assessing technology, supporting pre-production builds, partnering with quality engineers, and coordinating BOM releases. While the role is within a team that supports AI and Infrastructure, the core responsibilities are in hardware manufacturing and operations, not direct AI/ML model development or deployment.

What you'd actually do

  1. Own the manufacturing plan, lead reviews between design and operations engineering to drive deliverables that are key to implementing the manufacturing plan, design for excellence and test strategy.
  2. Lead the technology assessment for new products. Work with the product team to highlight risks and develop mitigation plans to ensure the product meets the specifications.
  3. Provide on-site and remote support for pre-production builds. Ensure factory readiness, support manufacturing line bring-up, provide product debug training and gather feedback on build issues. Manage the bonepile and drive yield bridge analysis to improve product quality.
  4. Partner with quality engineers to establish product quality and reliability goals. Validate product qualification plans, support reliability testing and review results.
  5. Coordinate release of NPI Bill of Materials (BOMs) into PDM system. Perform technical review of product changes and assess impact on supply chain.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
  • 8 years of experience in manufacturing, new product introduction (NPI) or hardware design
  • Experience in system, functional, and board level testing
  • Experience in managing root cause analysis, corrective actions and continuous process improvements, and working with cross-functional teams, contract manufacturers and suppliers

Nice to have

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience developing solid, effective technical relationships with contract manufacturers
  • Understanding of Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) tests, Design for X (DFX), quality, and reliability
  • Ability to create and execute a design validation test plan on a complex electronic assembly
  • Ability to be well-focused, give attention to details, and commit to produce a timely and highly accurate work product
  • Excellent investigative, organizational, written and verbal communication skills
