Production Engineer - Database Operations

This role focuses on the deployment, maintenance, automation, and observability of database systems that support Palantir's products. It involves building software for routine maintenance, troubleshooting production issues, managing large-scale migrations, and collaborating with engineering and customer-facing teams. The role requires expertise in production systems like Kubernetes, cloud environments, and specific databases (Cassandra, Elasticsearch, Kafka), as well as observability tools.

What you'd actually do

  1. Build and maintain software that automates the routine maintenance tasks involved in deploying and running production databases
  2. Participate in regular on-call rotations
  3. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and remediate issues that arise in the stability and reliability of production database systems
  4. Participate in post-incident reviews and take ownership of follow up actions
  5. Manage and execute large scale migrations of the fleet of databases we run

Skills

Required

  • Engineering background in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Physics or similar field
  • Experience writing code a variety of programmin languages such as Java, Python, and Go
  • Experience with cloud and deployment technologies such as Kubernetes, Helm, AWS, GCP, Azure, and Openshift
  • Experience with database technologies such as Cassandra, Elasticsearch and Kafka
  • A solid foundation in Linux and web service fundamentals
  • Familiarity with observability tools such as Grafana and Prometheus
  • Strong written and verbal communication
