Propulsion Engineer responsible for design elements associated with the cast propellant in a solid rocket motor, working on government and commercial programs. Develops design solutions to meet technical, cost, and schedule requirements. Involves creating 3D models, participating in engineering teams for design, test, and production, and interacting with multidisciplinary teams to improve design processes.

What you'd actually do

  1. Provide accurate, on-time 3D models and specifications for next generation rocket motor designs
  2. Participate in engineering teams associated with the design, test, and production of rocket motors
  3. Interact with development teams (including specialists in Manufacturing, Quality, Safety, Thermal, Structural, Materials, and Test) to certify design solutions that meet all requirements (technical, cost, schedule)
  4. Engage with multi-discipline team and functions to improve the loaded motor design process and tools via incorporation of test data and new innovative analysis and predictive and uncertainty quantification techniques
  5. Develop and present documentation for project related briefings including design reviews to be given to internal and external customers

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in classical Engineering
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance
  • Willingness to learn: Propellant cast processes, specifications, drawings, and analysis methods
  • Ability to travel: Travel expectation of 0% – 5%
  • Successful candidate must be able to pass a background check for the Federal Safe Explosives Act (SEA)
  • Skills in 3D modeling, mechanical drawings, manufacturing specifications, and GD&T
  • Great written and oral communication skills
  • Great time management and organizational skills
  • Detail oriented but able to understand the big picture

Nice to have

  • Previous fabrication, inspection experience, rocket motor design, or aerospace design experience
  • NX modeling and drawing experience
  • Understanding of manufacturing and inspection processes
  • Previous experience at Northrop Grumman
