Public Policy Lead, U.s. States

Discord is seeking a Public Policy Lead for U.S. States to build trust and find common ground with policymakers and regulators. This role involves educating decision-makers on Discord's mission and products, advocating for the company's positions on legislative and regulatory initiatives, and engaging with public policy coalitions. The lead will also monitor policy developments, develop policy materials, and collaborate with internal cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of experience in government or public policy advocacy, with a deep understanding of U.S. States policymaking and experience in technology policy related to online safety, privacy, or content moderation.

What you'd actually do

  1. Introduce Discord to policymakers and other stakeholders including educating decision-makers on our mission, our products, and our investments in privacy and safety
  2. Advocate for Discord’s position on key legislative and regulatory initiatives that will impact our users and our business
  3. Engage in public policy coalitions with peer companies and civil society organizations.
  4. Monitor and analyze policy developments in the U.S. States.
  5. Develop public policy materials such as position papers, talking points, presentations, consultation responses, for engagement with our partners.
