Quality Engineer

Rivian is seeking a Quality Engineer for their EV manufacturing team. This role focuses on responding to customer quality issues, driving containment on the production line, and conducting root-cause analyses to improve manufacturing quality. Responsibilities include managing customer complaint processes, identifying and solving quality issues within factory gates, rapid response to escalations, leading structured investigations (5D/8D), cross-functional collaboration, failure analysis, process audits, production support, and documentation.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead the end-to-end customer complaint process specifically for EV manufacturing issues (e.g., interiors, exteriors, LVE, chassis, HV).
  2. Identify and solve quality issues within our factory quality gates, ensuring defects are contained effectively and fixed with robust corrective actions.
  3. React quickly to quality escalations, initiating and driving immediate containment actions on the shop floor to protect the customer.
  4. Lead structured investigations (5D/8D, Kaizen methodology) ensure the timely implementation and closure of all corrective actions.
  5. Coordinate and lead cross-functional teams, including Production, Engineering, and Supplier Quality, to quickly resolve urgent manufacturing and field quality issues.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Mechatronics, or a related field)
  • 2+ years of dedicated quality engineering experience
  • Production Operations Knowledge
  • Proven experience coordinating in-plant containment actions in production environments
  • Working knowledge of core quality tools and standards, including APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC and 8D methodology
  • Excellent communication skills
  • demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure
