Joby Aviation is seeking a Quality Engineer Integration to oversee the quality aspects of flight and propulsion control systems for VTOL electric aircraft. This role supports the development, verification, and manufacture of products using APQP, CI, and SPC techniques, performs design reviews, develops data metrics for improvements, analyzes failures for root cause, and represents Quality on the Material Review Board. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field, minimum 2 years of experience in Quality or Engineering in a manufacturing environment, understanding of mechanical systems and inspection processes, and fundamental knowledge of quality philosophies and tools.

What you'd actually do

  1. Support the development, verification, and manufacture of products using Advanced Production Quality Planning (APQP), Continuous Improvement, and Statistical Process Control techniques
  2. Perform design review activities, including inspectability, consistency, adequacy, accuracy, and conformance to requirements, and provide recommendations for improvement
  3. Develop and manage data and metrics using data visualization tools to report and provide information with recommendations for product/process improvements, and reduce the cost of poor quality
  4. Perform product quality and quality management system reviews to assure compliance with drawings, work instructions, internal, and regulatory requirements
  5. Analyze internal product and process failures to ensure effective root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, technology, mathmatics, or related field
  • Minimum 2 years experience in Quality, Engineering, or other technical role supporting a manufacturing environment
  • Understanding of mechanical systems and inspection processes including in-process inspection and dimensional inspection
  • Fundamental understanding of quality philosophies, principles, systems, methods, and tools
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills including writing skills

Nice to have

  • Experience in the aviation industry
  • Knowledge of FAA regulatory requirements
  • Six Sigma Lean Manufacturing and Green Belt certification
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer
  • Familiarity with basic Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
  • Knowledge of AS9102 first article inspection process
  • Understanding of ISO9001, AS9100 or TS16949 Quality Management Systems
