Joby Aviation is seeking a Quality Inspector for composite materials and parts for their VTOL electric aircraft. This role involves performing various inspections (incoming, in-process, final) to ensure hardware quality and support manufacturing. The ideal candidate has experience in composite inspection, knowledge of quality terms, measurement tools, blueprint interpretation, and basic mathematical operations.

What you'd actually do

  1. Participate in the development of the quality inspection system
  2. Perform incoming inspection on supplied composite material
  3. Perform in-process inspection during the layup process for composite material
  4. Perform final inspection on completed composite parts
  5. Perform final inspection on the completed Work Order paperwork package

Skills

Required

  • high-school diploma or GED
  • 2 years' experience in composite inspection or fabrication and mechanical inspection
  • Knowledge of basic quality terms, definitions, and concepts
  • Working knowledge of types of measurement, measurement terminology, and the different types of measurement scales
  • Familiar with measurements using hand tools such as calipers and micrometers
  • Familiar with reading and interpreting blueprints and identifying critical, major, and minor characteristics
  • Understand different testing methods
  • Understand traceability (product, material, and calibration)
  • Knowledge of basic mathematical operations and perform measurement conversions
  • Ability to work in a team environment

Nice to have

  • 2+ years of on-the-job aerospace experience
  • General knowledge of ASME Y14.5M, working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and understanding of the x, y, z coordinate system
  • Basic knowledge of statistical terms and techniques
  • Basic knowledge of plan-do-check-act (PDCA)
  • ASQ Certified Quality Inspector Certificate
