Quality Inspector I - 2nd Shift

Quality Inspector I role at Caterpillar's Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) in San Antonio, Texas. Responsibilities include performing audits of production processes, supporting quality issues on the production line, developing countermeasures for issues, executing containments, creating quality alerts, conducting special studies, monitoring quality performance indicators, ensuring adherence to standard work, identifying and solving problems, and maintaining a safe workstation. Requires minimum 6 months of experience in a machining, manufacturing, or warehouse environment, ability to collaborate, strong communication and analytical skills, and knowledge of Microsoft Office. Preferred qualifications include experience with part prints, PLEX, Built-In Quality (BIQ) Processes, gauging techniques, engine assembly/repair, post-fabrication processes, and Lean manufacturing/Six-Sigma.

What you'd actually do

  1. Perform plan and/or method audits of the production processes to ensure _critical to customer_ actions are correct
  2. Lead Caterpillar Production System continuous improvement activities
  3. Provide support for quality issues on the production line
  4. Escalate and address issues, developing effective countermeasures
  5. Execute containments and communicate results

Skills

Required

  • Minimum of 6 months' experience in a machining, manufacturing, or warehouse environment or industry certification
  • Ability to collaborate with different teams and departments
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret documents in English
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • General knowledge and experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and/or PowerPoint
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of products and assembly tools
  • Previous experience with Standard Operating Procedures or Standard Work
  • Ability to adhere to safety procedures

Nice to have

  • Previous experience reading and interpreting part prints and/or schematics
  • Intermediate experience navigating PLEX
  • Proficiency in Built-In Quality (BIQ) Processes
  • Proficient in gauging techniques (i.e. thread, height, micrometer, and paint thickness)
  • Hands on experience assembling or repairing engines, engine components, and/or generators
  • Knowledge of post-fabrication processes
  • Lean manufacturing experience and/or Six-Sigma Certification
