What you'd actually do

  1. In the parts are released to the next process or production/assembly line before checking the quality of the production or purchased parts, sheet metal parts and sub-assemblies.
  2. Check raw materials to meet Caterpillar specifications and quality requirements in accordance with standard procedures or specific work instructions.
  3. Set up and operate measuring instruments to check equipment compensation, calibrate target values, baseline and positioning devices for machined parts, etc.
  4. Complete other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Skills

Required

  • Proficiency with mechanical drawings
  • Understanding of dimensional tolerances and corresponding measurement methods
  • Proficiency in operating common measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, air gauges, etc.)
  • Familiarity with ISO9001 or TS16949
  • Basic computer skills, including MS Office software

Nice to have

  • Technical school or higher education, preferably in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Basic knowledge of CMM/PMM
  • Familiarity with basic quality control methods such as SPC
