R&d Engineering Technician

Anduril Anduril · Defense · Lexington, MA · Mission Systems : Imaging Engineering : Imaging - Engineering Technicians

Anduril Industries is a defense technology company focused on transforming military capabilities with advanced technology, including autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking. This R&D Engineering Technician role involves collaborating with engineers to build and test optical systems, fabricate electro-mechanical assemblies, develop test fixtures, manage prototyping resources, and support testing initiatives. The role requires experience with complex electro-mechanical assemblies, troubleshooting, soldering, basic electrical understanding, and ownership of the rapid prototyping process. Experience with optical systems, 3D printing, machine tools, test equipment, and software tools like Solidworks, Altium, Matlab, Python, or Labview is preferred. A U.S. Secret security clearance is required.

What you'd actually do

  1. Work closely with development and test engineers to build and test new optical systems for airborne, maritime and space platforms
  2. Fabricate and assemble high quality, high reliability and electro-mechanical assemblies.
  3. Develop and implement integration and test fixtures; setup and use existing test equipment, monitor, and report the results.
  4. Own internal prototyping resources, including mechanical and electrical fabrication equipment
  5. Manage R+D space from a facilities and organizational standpoint

Skills

Required

  • complex electro-mechanical assemblies
  • troubleshooting cables and wiring harnesses
  • soldering
  • crimping
  • assembling cables and connectors
  • basic electrical understanding (voltage drop, wire sizing, Ohm's Law)
  • rapid prototyping process ownership
  • U.S. Secret security clearance

Nice to have

  • alignment and characterization of optical systems
  • 3D printing for prototyping
  • operating manual machine tools (milling machine, lathe)
  • test and measurement equipment (Instron, CMM, optical comparator)
  • Mechanical and Electrical Software tools (Solidworks, Altium)
  • scripting/automation languages (Matlab, Python, Labview)

What the JD emphasized

  • Minimum 4 years experience as a technician working on complex electro-mechanical assemblies
  • Ability to work through R&D tasks with limited oversight (evaluate, design, order materials, execute)
  • Ability to take ownership of entire rapid prototyping process from start to finish
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
