Google is seeking a Rack Power Engineer to design and develop custom silicon solutions for their data center IT equipment, focusing on power systems for machine learning, compute, and storage platforms. The role involves innovating and designing in-rack and data center power conversion specifications, building simulation models, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and leading projects involving new technologies. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with experience in AC/DC and power delivery systems.

What you'd actually do

  1. Innovate and design in-rack and data center power conversion specifications and solutions including power supplies, power shelf, power distribution unit (PDU), battery backup system, etc. Analyze performance, cost, reliability and availability trade-offs.
  2. Build and validate component and system level power simulation models for AC and DC power systems.
  3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand application requirements and partner with power industry leaders to evaluate and adopt compelling technologies.
  4. Lead projects that involve new technologies or new uses of multiple existing technologies.
  5. Engage cross-functionally to ensure successful roll-out, testing, and complete validation.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience working on AC/DC and power delivery systems, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
  • Experience in power design.

Nice to have

  • Master's degree or PhD in Power Electronics or related discipline.
  • Understanding of power electronics fundamentals and knowledge of various power conversion designs for data center power delivery.
  • Knowledge of power converter modeling and simulation and experience in data center power system design or battery backup system design.
  • Familiarity with power electronic laboratory measurement techniques and equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, DAQ systems, and high power supplies/loads).
  • Scripting experience such as Python/Perl.
  • Exceptional problem solving and organizational skills, with a well-focused attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and ability to work effectively with cross-functional project teams.
