Manages the operational, technical, and logistical aspects of remote sports television productions, ensuring adherence to departmental standards for accuracy, cost, and timeliness. Responsibilities include event preparation, on-site oversight, personnel management, technical planning, troubleshooting, and assisting with new technology implementation.

What you'd actually do

  1. Oversees all operational and technical aspects of assigned remote events.
  2. Provides guidance and training to Remote Operations staff, including Operations Coordinators and technical crew.
  3. As on-site management of personnel, makes sure that ESPN Workplace Conduct and Safety Policies are followed, including vetting and authorizing any on-site personnel.
  4. Ensures that appropriate timelines are met for technical and financial planning.
  5. Create and build event specific paperwork, including surveys, tech books and post reports, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of reporting.

Skills

Required

  • knowledge of organization, procurement, financial, and logistics planning related to show creation
  • Working knowledge of differing production models, as well as signal flow, scalability and transmission
  • knowledge of developments in equipment technology and procedures
  • strong interpersonal skills, including voice and email communication, and conflict resolution skills
  • strong knowledge of the technical equipment requirements of ESPN’s remote operations functions
  • Administers proper hiring and payment policies
  • Operates within the defined goals of the Remote Operations department
  • Maintains communication flow with peers in sharing best practices and maximizing third party vendor contacts
  • Fluent in common computer based software programs used for data compilation, information distribution and presentations

Nice to have

  • 7+ years of related technical and/or operational planning, on-site management and procurement experience
  • Knowledge of technical software based tools, with relevance to broadcast planning
  • Solid knowledge of comms workflow in relation to technical broadcast plan fulfillment
  • Established relationships throughout the broadcast industry in relation to third party vendors and clients
