Research/principal Research Scientist Level 2/3

Northrop Grumman Northrop Grumman · Aerospace · Clearfield, UT +1 · Research and Science Mult-Func

Research/Principal Research Scientist role focused on process development and automation for composite aerospace structures, involving material science, advanced resin systems, fiber reinforcements, and diagnostic techniques. The role requires developing new material systems for automated fabrication and solving technical issues using root cause methodologies.

What you'd actually do

  1. Develop processes and optimize material solutions for pilot scale fabrication of complex composite materials. Plan and execute the transition to production scale manufacturing and assist in defining equipment and floor plan needs.
  2. Develop new material systems that are amenable to additive manufacturing, fiber placement and other automated composite fabrication techniques.
  3. Solve technical issues using root cause methodologies based on underlying scientific principals and an understanding of chemical processes
  4. Identify and develop technical solutions that meet IRAD and Process Service project goals
  5. Provide technical decisions and recommendations based on data and project outcomes
