This role focuses on assessing the ethical and safety implications of DeepMind's AI research and applications, working with technical teams and stakeholders to ensure responsible development and deployment of AGI. The strategist will lead ethics and safety reviews, develop best practices, and inform model policy.

What you'd actually do

  1. Support the responsibility and safety council by frequently presenting project assessments and communicating with executive stakeholders.
  2. Develop and document best practices for DeepMind projects by working with internal experts and external organizations.
  3. Design and run engagement models, such as workshops and external expert consultations, to address ethics and safety issues and identify new research areas.
  4. Collaborate closely with DeepMind safety communities and broader teams to inform model policy, prepare for emerging AI capabilities, and refine assessment frameworks through monitoring real-world impact.
  5. Lead ethics and safety reviews of projects and engage early with model teams to assess downstream societal implications and navigate governance considerations.
