Researcher at Microsoft focusing on advancing the state-of-the-art in AI, Computer Systems, Networking, NLU, Computer Vision, and ML. The role involves conducting research, leading collaborations, formulating research problems, and developing prototypes. While expertise is provided to product groups, the primary focus is on academic knowledge advancement rather than immediate product needs. The role requires strong programming skills, depth of knowledge in AI fields, and experience in research execution and publication.

What you'd actually do

  1. Collaborates with product and business groups to provide expertise and technology, participates in technology transfer, files patents, authors white papers, and develops tools/services for internal use. May publish research.
  2. Bridges the gap between researchers and development teams, bringing new technology and approaches into production to solve immediate product needs. Identifies and applies research-backed solutions to positively impact Microsoft products or services.
  3. Gains expertise in specific research subareas and broad research fields, applies advanced concepts to product needs, and consults with engineers and product teams. Researches tools and methods to improve product quality, performance, or efficiency.
  4. Reviews and prepares data for analysis, ensuring quality and technical constraints are met. Develops usable datasets for modeling, adapts cleaned data for machine learning, and designs ETL pipelines. Collaborates to apply state-of-the-art algorithms to business problems and uses statistical tools to evaluate machine learning models.
  5. Supports the application and deployment of machine learning algorithms, seeks information to improve models, and helps create, apply, and verify models through iterations. Assists with experiments and sets up monitoring to track production models.
