Researcher, Frontier Biological and Chemical Risks

OpenAI OpenAI · AI Frontier · San Francisco, CA · Safety Systems

This role focuses on AI safety research, specifically identifying and evaluating emerging AI safety risks, particularly in biological, chemical, and cyber domains. The researcher will design and build evaluations for frontier AI models, develop scalable systems for these evaluations, and contribute to risk management and best practice guidelines for AI safety. The role emphasizes scientific validity and end-to-end ownership of evaluation threads.

What you'd actually do

  1. Work on identifying emerging AI safety risks and new methodologies for exploring the impact of these risks
  2. Build (and then continuously refine) evaluations of frontier AI models that assess the extent of identified risks
  3. Design and build scalable systems and processes that can support these kinds of evaluations
  4. Contribute to the refinement of risk management and the overall development of "best practice" guidelines for AI safety evaluations
