Retail Loan Originator

This role is for a Retail Loan Officer at SoFi, a financial services company. The primary responsibility is to guide members through the mortgage origination process, assess creditworthiness, manage loan applications, and ensure a smooth transaction from application to funding. The role involves sales, customer interaction, pipeline management, and coordination with third-party partners. It is a sales-focused role within the fintech domain, aiming to maximize funded loan volume while maintaining quality and compliance.

What you'd actually do

  1. Evaluate initial loan applications and supporting documentation to assess creditworthiness and repayment ability
  2. Perform preliminary analysis of applicants’ credit, income, and assets, communicating initial eligibility and next steps clearly to the customer
  3. Communicate key origination timelines, product options, pricing, and underwriting requirements throughout the loan lifecycle
  4. Proactively engage with applicants through outbound communication to obtain required documentation and ensure timely progression from application to funding
  5. Clearly communicate loan status updates, conditions, approvals, and/or declinations to ensure customers are informed at every stage

Nice to have

  • Two to four (2-4) years of successful origination of loans; residential mortgage loan experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state and/or regulatory requirements of mortgage lending
  • Overall good knowledge and understanding of mortgage product, pricing and underwriting guidelines
  • Consultative sales skills in a mortgage sales organization
  • High volume transaction processing experience
  • Any individual state mortgage licensing is considered a plus
  • Ability to obtain and maintain individual state license(s) and SAFE act compliance
