Safety Regulatory Engineer

This role provides technical and regulatory support for automotive safety components, reviews compliance plans, supports global market homologation, develops safety strategies, and influences future protocols by working with external agencies. The engineer will interpret safety requirements and forecast vehicle requirements.

What you'd actually do

  1. Provide technical and regulatory support for: Tires, Wheels, Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems, Vehicle Mass, and Event Data Recorders
  2. Review and concur on engineering Compliance Demonstration Plans (CDPs)
  3. Support program homologation for global markets, including local witness testing
  4. Develop safety strategies and guidelines to enhance real-world safety performance
  5. Work with external agencies such as AFAI (Alliance for Automotive Innovation), SAE, and NHTSA to influence and shape future protocols

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Automotive, or a related technical field).
  • 2+ years of experience in automotive engineering, regulatory compliance, or systems engineering.
  • Proven ability to read, interpret, and synthesize complex legal/technical documents (e.g., Federal Register notices or international standards) into actionable engineering requirements.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to summarize technical compliance issues for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel for data analysis/tracking and PowerPoint for executive-level reporting).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet strict deadlines (aligned with vehicle program milestones).

Nice to have

  • Strong teamwork and positive work demeanor
  • Knowledge of FMVSS, ECE and GB regulations for Tires, Wheels, Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems, Vehicle Mass, and Event Data Recorders
  • Experience in Product Development (PD) and/or Vehicle Homologation & Compliance (VH&C)
  • Knowledge of regulatory or industry standard development
  • Knowledge of GPDS deliverables, program development and compliance processes
  • Experience with authoring requirements and/or test procedures within Ford system
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic environment
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
