Northrop Grumman is seeking a Semiconductor Materials Section Manager to lead a group of microelectronic semiconductor engineers. This role involves sustaining and advancing compound semiconductor epitaxy technologies and characterization methodologies for microelectronic solutions. Responsibilities include technical leadership, program liaison, functional management (hiring, training, performance reviews), and overseeing the maintenance of MBE systems and vendor relationships. The position is critical for wafer growth of GaN, InP, and GaAs MMIC chips.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead a group of microelectronic semiconductor engineers responsible for sustaining and advancing compound semiconductor epitaxy technologies and characterization methodologies that enable innovative microelectronic solutions for our mission architectures.
  2. Serve as the technical lead for semiconductor materials and the materials point of contact for programs.
  3. Manage a team of 6 or more engineers, including hiring, training, and conducting performance reviews.
  4. Oversee the maintenance of molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) systems, relevant tools, and vendor relationships.
  5. Ensure the smooth operation of a critical node in NGMS’s microelectronics foundry process, responsible for all engineering activities related to wafer growth.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field or Master's Degree in a STEM field
  • 8 years of semiconductor related experience (with Bachelor's) or 6 years of semiconductor related experience (with Master's)
  • Experience operating or maintaining a molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) growth system
  • Knowledge of thin-film characterization techniques and ability to apply them to improve semiconductor material performance
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team of engineers and communicate effectively through written reports and verbal presentations
  • Experience managing a team of 6 or more engineers

Nice to have

  • PhD in materials science, electrical engineering, chemistry, or physics with 4 years of semiconductor related experience
  • Experience in semiconductor wafer fabrication processes, device design and modeling, and circuit design and simulation
