Senior Applied Research Engineer - Media Quality

Spotify Spotify · Consumer · London, United Kingdom +1 · Experience

Senior Applied Research Engineer focused on improving media quality (audio/video) for Spotify's consumer experience, working across the full media pipeline from backend processing to frontend playback. The role involves building evaluation frameworks, designing perceptual studies, and integrating research prototypes into production systems.

What you'd actually do

  1. Own research-to-production work across audio/video signal processing, perceptual quality, and media intelligence.
  2. Partner with teams to integrate prototypes into production systems and decision-making across areas like music and video information retrieval and quality-aware processing.
  3. Work across the full media pipeline, from encoding and delivery to playback, buffering, and synchronization.
  4. Build evaluation frameworks and support media platform and codec decisions grounded in measurement.
  5. Design perceptual studies, develop tooling that connects quality metrics to real user experience outcomes.
