Senior Automation Engineer responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing automated systems (Robotics, PLCs, SCADA) in a manufacturing environment. This includes leading projects from bid to commissioning, improving processes, developing workflows, programming industrial equipment, managing infrastructure with IaC, testing and validation, ensuring system integration with MES/ERP, authoring batch records, and developing data pipelines for monitoring KPIs. The role requires experience in manufacturing, ideally in regulated sectors, and with specific MES and industrial automation tools.

What you'd actually do

  1. System Design & Development: Create and optimize automated systems, including Robotics, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and SCADA systems for manufacturing and testing.
  2. Process Optimisation: Lead "cradle to grave" projects (from bid to commissioning) to improve safety, cycle time, and cost through automation.
  3. Process Automation: Develop workflows and tooling to automate routine operational tasks, ensuring they are consistent, repeatable, and scalable.
  4. Programming & Controls: Develop and optimise programs for PLCs (Siemens S7, Allen Bradley), industrial robots (Fanuc, ABB, Kuka), and HMI/SCADA systems.
  5. Infrastructure Management: Provision and optimize infrastructure, often utilizing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform and Ansible.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or Controls)
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with MES Platforms (Emerson Syncade, Siemens Opcenter, or Apriso)
  • Hands-on experience with Siemens S7/TIA Portal
  • Hands-on experience with FANUC robots
