Senior Battery Engineer

Lead the design, qualification, and lifecycle sustainment of lithium-ion battery systems for WHOOP's wearable technology, focusing on energy density, reliability, and safety. This role involves technical leadership, cross-functional collaboration, test plan execution, supplier evaluation, and ensuring compliance with international safety and regulatory standards. The engineer will also work on battery management systems and predictive modeling.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead the design, qualification, and lifecycle sustainment of lithium-ion battery systems that power WHOOP’s advanced wearable technology.
  2. Serve as the technical lead for WHOOP’s battery systems, driving development across internal engineering teams and external partners.
  3. Lead the creation and execution of test plans, including Design of Experiments (DOE), performance validation, and root cause failure analysis for battery-related issues.
  4. Evaluate and qualify battery suppliers and manufacturing partners, ensuring alignment with WHOOP’s product standards and regulatory requirements.
  5. Manage battery subsystem development timelines and cross-functional team coordination to ensure on-time delivery of new and sustained battery technologies.

Nice to have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or related technical field (or foreign degree equivalent) and 5 years of experience with battery system design, failure analysis, or sustaining engineering.
  • Master’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or related technical field (or foreign degree equivalent) and 2 years of experience with battery system design, failure analysis, or sustaining engineering.
