Senior Business Systems Engineer- Data Center Systems II

Weights & Biases Weights & Biases · Data AI · Bellevue, WA +2 · Information Technology

This role focuses on engineering the systems that support Data Center Operations, including asset lifecycle management, project management, MRO, infrastructure automation, and commissioning workflows. The engineer will own and evolve integrations across various platforms (DCIM, SCADA, BMS, CMMS, NetBox, Jira, ERP), build API-driven integrations and event pipelines, and implement full-stack observability. They will also develop internal tools, microservices, and automation frameworks, design and scale Kubernetes clusters, and implement infrastructure-as-code. The role requires strong software engineering capabilities, experience with observability tools, and familiarity with data center infrastructure and communication protocols.

What you'd actually do

  1. Serve as a strategic systems partner to Data Center Operations, Infrastructure, and Facilities teams
  2. Own and evolve integrations across DCIM (e.g., Sunbird), SCADA/HMI platforms (e.g., Ignition), BMS, CMMS, NetBox, Jira, and ERP systems
  3. Build and maintain API-driven integrations, event pipelines, and webhook-based workflows across the operational tooling ecosystem
  4. Define and manage SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets for critical operational systems
  5. Design and implement full-stack observability (metrics, logs, traces) with dashboards for real-time data center visibility

Skills

Required

  • Systems engineering
  • Infrastructure automation
  • IT platforms supporting data center environments
  • Integrating and operating DCIM, CMMS, BMS, or SCADA-adjacent platforms
  • Building APIs, scripts, or applications (Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, React)
  • Observability and monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry)
  • Jira automation, APIs, and workflow orchestration
  • Data center infrastructure
  • Communication protocols (MQTT, Redfish, BACnet, Modbus)
  • NetBox or similar systems
  • Cross-functional collaboration
  • Asset lifecycle and handoff workflows
  • Audit, compliance, and infrastructure traceability requirements
  • Supporting global or multi-site data center environments

Nice to have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field
  • Experience with Terraform, Helm
  • Experience with Kubernetes
  • Experience with data engineering teams and pipelines
  • Exposure to audit, compliance, and infrastructure traceability requirements

What the JD emphasized

  • This is not a traditional operations role—you will be engineering the systems layer that underpins data center execution.
  • Hands-on experience integrating and operating DCIM, CMMS, BMS, or SCADA-adjacent platforms in production
  • Strong software engineering capability with experience building APIs, scripts, or applications (Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, React, etc.)
  • Experience with observability and monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or equivalent)
  • Experience using NetBox or similar systems as a source of truth for network and asset inventory
