Senior Corporate Counsel, Construction

Microsoft Microsoft · Big Tech · Redmond, WA +4 · Legal Counsel

This role supports Microsoft's Cloud Operations + Innovation division by providing legal counsel for the design, procurement, construction contracting, and project delivery of global datacenters. The role involves advising on complex agreements, negotiating with contractors and suppliers, managing outside counsel, and supporting active construction projects. While the division operates AI tools like Copilot and the role mentions using AI to improve legal work, the core function is legal counsel for infrastructure construction, not AI/ML development.

What you'd actually do

  2. Partnering closely with business teams in negotiations with contractors, designers, consultants, and key suppliers; advising business partners on risk allocation, deal structure, compliance, and other aspects of contracts.
  3. Providing day-to-day legal support for active construction projects, including counseling on contract administration, notices, scope management, and claim and dispute resolution and avoidance.
  4. Managing outside counsel and specialized advisors on construction matters, including commercial advice, contract negotiation, and dispute management.
  5. Supporting the development and continuous improvement of construction contracting playbooks, templates, and clause libraries; driving process improvements to improve quality and reduce contract cycle time; collaborating with business teams in the development of new deal structures.
