Senior Cost Accountant role at a defense technology company, focusing on full-stack cost accounting for product portfolios. Responsibilities include asset management, cost recognition, standard costing practices, variance analysis, financial close processes, internal controls, inventory management, external audit support, and partnering with Operations, Supply Chain, and Engineering. The role also supports U.S. government contracts and IPO readiness initiatives.

What you'd actually do

  1. Perform asset capitalization, depreciation, and management for deployed internal and subscription assets.
  2. Responsible for the recognition and accounting treatment of hardware deployments including, where applicable, COGS, maintenance and repair, returns, operations and sustainment, and capitalization.
  3. Perform and continuously improve standard costing practices to ensure accurate product costing, variance analysis, and margin reporting for designated product lines and production sites.
  4. Perform work order review, variance analysis, and closure for designated product lines and production sites.
  5. Responsible for a portion of the Company’s cost accounting close process, including cost roll-ups, variance analysis, absorption reporting, and reconciliations of inventory and work-in-process.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5-7 years of progressive cost accounting experience in manufacturing
  • Proven experience with standard costing in complex, low-volume, high-dollar manufacturing environments
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. government contracting cost principles (FAR/CAS)
  • Demonstrated experience with maintaining effective internal controls and supporting external audits
  • Advanced proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP, or similar) and data analysis tools
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across functions and influence senior leadership
  • Must be a U.S. Person

Nice to have

  • CPA or CMA preferred
  • ability to grow into a high-volume environment
  • Experience in a privately held company preparing for an IPO is highly desirable
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and leadership skills with a focus on continuous improvement and operational excellence
