Senior Derivative Accountant

This role is for a Senior Derivative Accountant on the Ripple Treasury Managed Services team. The primary responsibilities include serving as a subject matter expert on derivative instruments and hedging relationships, owning the full technical accounting lifecycle under ASC 815 and IFRS 9, including documentation, effectiveness testing, journal entries, and disclosures. The role requires a CPA, 5+ years of experience with derivative instruments and hedge accounting, and deep technical fluency in ASC 815 and IFRS 9. Experience with hedge accounting platforms is preferred. The role is based in Chicago, IL, with a salary range of $144,000-$180,000 USD.

What you'd actually do

  1. Own end-to-end derivative accounting for interest rate swaps, cross-currency swaps, FX forwards, options, and commodity derivatives across multiple client portfolios.
  2. Prepare and review hedge documentation — designation memos, risk management objectives, and formal effectiveness testing under ASC 815 and IFRS 9.
  3. Execute quantitative and qualitative effectiveness assessments (regression analysis, dollar-offset, hypothetical derivative method) on both a prospective and retrospective basis.
  4. Prepare journal entries and financial statement disclosures related to hedging activities and answer client inquiries about our deliverables
  5. Apply critical judgment on hedge accounting elections — fair value hedges, cash flow hedges, net investment hedges, and de-designation scenarios.
