Senior Design Technologist, AI Tooling

Superhuman Superhuman · Consumer · Hub - San Francisco · Engineering, Product, Design, and Marketing

Senior Design Technologist role focused on leading AI prototyping and internal tooling initiatives to enhance design precision, cohesion, and brand consistency within an AI-native productivity platform. The role involves developing AI-assisted design tools, integrating AI into design workflows, and building prototypes and frameworks to support design operations.

What you'd actually do

  1. Build high-fidelity, interactive prototypes that bring speculative and near-term product ideas to life with enough realism to be used in research, stakeholder alignment, and product decision-making.
  2. Use AI tooling and write clean, front-end code (HTML/CSS/JavaScript, React) to build micro-interactions, production-ready prototypes and develop and refine internal tools to support Design workflows.
  3. Build custom AI API integrations, structured outputs, workflows and skills that integrate with our design tokens, components, accessibility standards, and motion system.
  4. Create surface templates and prompting frameworks to accelerate prototyping experimentation across the design org.
  5. Partner with the Design System and Accessibility teams to develop tools that augment the efficiency and scale of their work.

Skills

Required

  • 8+ years across creative technology, design engineering, interaction design, or advanced prototyping
  • built interactive experiences powered by LLMs (Claude, OpenAI, or Gemini APIs)
  • worked closely with Design Systems and Accessibility teams
  • fluent in Figma's advanced capabilities: Variables, Advanced Prototyping, Plugins API, REST API
  • strong front-end development skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and React
  • comfortable with Claude Code, Framer, Cursor, etc for rapid, code-adjacent prototyping
  • Understand AI API integration: streaming, prompt engineering, structured outputs, tool use
  • experience building structured prompts, automation frameworks, or code-generation recipes
  • deep understanding of design tokens, theming systems, and component architecture
  • working knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design best practices
  • familiar with motion and interaction tools (Framer Motion, After Effects, Lottie, or similar)
  • move fast while maintaining quality
  • Think in scalable systems, abstractions, and long-term frameworks
  • strong design instincts
  • excellent communicator and collaborator
  • Obsess over clarity, usability, and delightful details

Nice to have

  • Experience building or fine-tuning LLM-powered features, agents, or tool-use flows
  • Familiarity with WebGL, Three.js, Spline, or generative/creative coding
  • Background in product design, front-end engineering or UX research
  • shared work publicly in talks, open-source tools, or prototypes that influenced how people think about a problem
