This role is for a Senior Director of Global Employment and Labour Law, JAPAC, at Salesforce. The position involves leading a team of lawyers and compliance professionals to provide employment law support across the JAPAC region. Key responsibilities include team leadership, strategic partnership on employment issues (including AI adoption), policy and compliance, managing inquiries and litigation, and providing regional support. The role requires a law degree, licensure in Australia, significant experience in JAPAC employment law (especially India), and familiarity with AI governance principles and AI tools.

What you'd actually do

  1. Manage and mentor a high-performing team of senior employment legal and compliance professionals located in Sydney, Australia and Bangalore, India who support the JAPAC region and global partners.
  2. Be a trusted legal partner to the relevant internal groups to navigate sensitive and wide-ranging issues from noncompetition agreements, hiring and recruiting issues, AI adoption, discipline, investigations, wage and hour, leaves of absence, terminations, workforce restructuring activities, new country expansion, and company strategic initiatives.
  3. Partner with various internal stakeholders to determine strategy and approach on employment-related policies, guidelines, trainings, and processes with an approach that balances pragmatism, risk, and compliance.
  4. Investigate and respond to demand letters and administrative or governmental inquiries, and manage labor and employment litigation matters with internal and external litigation counsel and derive data-driven insights from such litigation.
  5. Provide legal support for our JAPAC Employee Success and employee relations business partners, partnering with three regional leaders and particularly taking a hands-on approach to guiding and overseeing Indian operations.

Skills

Required

  • Law degree
  • Licensed to practice law in Australia
  • Significant experience working in in-house legal departments across the JAPAC region
  • Experience and proven track record of working closely with Indian operations
  • 15+ years combined employment law experience in a law firm and/or in-house legal department, preferably in a leadership role as an employment lawyer in a multinational technology company
  • Proven experience managing a high-performing team with operational excellence, including using data to drive advocacy and efficiency
  • Excellent written/verbal communication and negotiation skills
  • Experience using AI tools and familiarity with AI governance principles
  • Demonstrated success working with cross-functional teams
  • Highly responsive and service-oriented attitude
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage deadlines, work flow, and team execution in a fast-paced and demanding work environment
  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with demanding internal clients
  • Sound and practical business judgment
