Seeking a Senior Director, Associate General Counsel to provide legal advice and strategic guidance on commercial initiatives and transactions for the Discover Network, focusing on credit products, fintech innovation, and payment innovation. This role also involves managing a legal team responsible for negotiating commercial agreements and supporting new product development.

What you'd actually do

  1. Providing expert counsel and strategic guidance across a critical spectrum of areas, impacting commercial relationships, including commercial contracting and risk identification and mitigation
  2. Leading a team of legal professionals responsible for negotiating and drafting a variety of commercial agreements and providing legal advice on a broad range of matters impacting issuer, acquirer, and merchant relationships
  3. Negotiating, drafting, and guiding implementation of commercial agreements, working in close collaboration with legal and business colleagues and other subject matter experts
  4. Acting as lead subject matter expert on the Global Payment Network’s credit products, including regulatory overlays applicable to Credit, industry regulatory developments and credit-specific operational considerations
  5. Leading credit-, fintech and payment innovation related new product initiatives and innovation across the Discover Network

Skills

Required

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • Active member in good standing of at least one state bar
  • at least 10 years of experience as an attorney in a law firm environment, at a government agency, as a military judge advocate, or as in-house counsel

Nice to have

  • 12+ years of experience in a law firm, in-house legal department, or a combination
  • 2+ years of commercial contracting experience
  • Merchant and/or payment network experience
