This position is ideal for an experienced engineering leader who thrives at the intersection of technology, business strategy, supply chain transformation, and enterprise-scale execution. As Senior Director, Software Engineering – Fulfillment, you will lead technology strategy, architecture, engineering execution, and talent development for Walmart’s Fulfillment platforms, shaping the future of fulfillment at Fortune #1 scale.
You will modernize platforms that power order fulfillment, warehouse execution, automation, robotics integration, supply chain visibility, operational decision-making, and customer promise accuracy across Walmart’s omnichannel ecosystem. A critical part of this role is enabling the next generation of Agentic AI-powered Fulfillment Engineering through the responsible adoption of AI agents, intelligent automation, predictive insights, real-time optimization, and autonomous decision-support capabilities that improve fulfillment speed, operational resilience, associate productivity, customer experience, and cost-to-serve efficiency. You will lead multiple engineering organizations through Directors, Senior Engineering Managers, Principal Engineers, and senior technical leaders, while partnering with Product, Business, Fulfillment Operations, Data Science, Infrastructure, Information Security, Finance, Walmart Fulfillment Services, Marketplace, and eCommerce leaders to deliver scalable platforms that drive customer experience, operational efficiency, and business growth. This role requires deep technical judgment, organizational leadership, enterprise influence, product thinking, business acumen, and the ability to operate through ambiguity while delivering measurable outcomes at Walmart scale.

About Team
The Walmart Fulfillment Engineering team develops and operates technology platforms that power Walmart’s end-to-end fulfillment ecosystem across stores, fulfillment centers, distribution centers, fulfilment centers, and automated DC.
Our platforms support critical capabilities including fulfillment management, warehouse management, warehouse automation, robotics integrations, inventory visibility, order orchestration, fulfillment routing, supply chain visibility, customer promise, labor optimization, and operational intelligence.
The team plays a central role in enabling Walmart’s omnichannel strategy by building highly available, scalable, secure, and intelligent systems that help move products efficiently from suppliers and fulfillment nodes to customers and stores.
What You’ll Do
- **Strategic Leadership: **Establish a compelling technology vision for Fulfillment Engineering aligned with Walmart’s enterprise priorities, anticipating future supply chain, fulfillment, customer, and technology needs and translating them into actionable platform strategies. Lead through ambiguity while creating clarity, accountability, and measurable outcomes, and make investment decisions that balance business growth, customer experience, platform resiliency, innovation, and cost efficiency.
- **Technical Leadership: **Provide architectural leadership for highly scalable, resilient, secure, and intelligent fulfillment platforms, guiding the modernization of legacy systems into cloud-native, API-enabled, event-driven, and AI-ready architectures. Ensure engineering teams build platforms that prioritize reliability, observability, extensibility, security, compliance, and enterprise reuse while advancing innovation through Agentic AI, automation, data-driven decision-making, and advanced optimization.
- **People Leadership: **Build and sustain an inclusive, high-performance engineering organization by coaching and developing leaders who can operate independently at enterprise scale. Strengthen leadership bench depth and succession readiness while fostering a culture of accountability, ownership, engineering craftsmanship, continuous learning, respect for the individual, and a strong sense of associate engagement and belonging. Develop and retain critical engineering and leadership talent, improve organizational effectiveness, and build the leadership capacity necessary to support long-term business growth and enterprise-scale execution.
- **Enterprise Influence: **Influence and align senior leaders across Product, Supply Chain, Fulfillment, Marketplace/WFS, eCommerce, Data Science, Infrastructure, and Operations around shared business outcomes, technology standards, and execution priorities. Communicate complex engineering strategies effectively to executive and non-technical audiences and represent Fulfillment Engineering as a trusted partner in strategic planning and enterprise transformation initiatives. Foster strong cross-functional partnerships that drive stakeholder satisfaction, organizational alignment, and successful business outcomes.
- **Delivery Excellence: **Drive disciplined execution across roadmap delivery, operational readiness, incident response, platform health, and business outcome tracking. Balance speed of delivery with architectural quality, security, reliability, and long-term maintainability while improving engineering productivity, reducing technical debt, increasing platform resilience, and holding teams accountable for measurable customer, associate, business, and engineering outcomes. Continuously strengthen operating models, execution maturity, and organizational effectiveness to enable sustainable delivery at scale.

- **Strategic Leadership: **Proven experience leading large-scale engineering organizations and defining multi-year technology strategies that deliver measurable customer, operational, and business outcomes. Strong business acumen with the ability to translate complex technology capabilities into platform roadmaps, investment priorities, and enterprise value while operating effectively in ambiguity and driving alignment across senior business and technology stakeholders.
- **Technical Leadership: **Deep expertise in distributed systems, cloud-native platforms, microservices, APIs, event-driven architectures, data platforms, AI/ML technologies, and highly available enterprise systems. Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale technology modernization initiatives and apply engineering excellence, reliability, security, compliance, and operational discipline at enterprise scale.
- **Domain Expertise & Innovation: **Strong understanding of fulfillment, supply chain, logistics, warehouse management, automation, robotics, retail, eCommerce, and omnichannel technology ecosystems. Experience leveraging Agentic AI, intelligent automation, advanced analytics, and responsible AI practices to solve complex operational challenges and drive innovation.
- **People Leadership: **Proven success building, scaling, and developing high-performing engineering organizations, including senior leaders, architects, Principal Engineers, and Distinguished Engineers. Demonstrated ability to cultivate leadership talent, strengthen organizational capability, and foster an inclusive, high-performance culture.
- **Enterprise Influence & Communication: **Exceptional executive communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts, influence decision-making, and align cross-functional leaders across product, operations, business, and technology organizations around shared outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
- 15+ years of progressive software engineering experience.
- 8+ years of experience leading engineering organizations through multiple leadership layers.
- Experience building and scaling distributed systems, cloud-native platforms, or enterprise technology platforms.
- Experience leading large engineering organizations supporting mission-critical systems used by millions of customers, associates, or enterprise users.
- Proven success delivering complex technology transformations with measurable business impact.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or MBA.
- Experience in retail, eCommerce, supply chain, logistics, warehouse management, fulfillment, or omnichannel technology.
- Experience with warehouse automation, robotics integrations, fulfillment systems, or supply chain execution platforms.
- Strong background in cloud platforms, Kubernetes, distributed systems, event streaming, real-time data platforms, and platform engineering.
- Experience leading global or geographically distributed engineering organizations.
- Experience implementing AI/ML, Agentic AI, intelligent automation, optimization engines, or predictive decisioning capabilities in enterprise environments.
- Experience with operational excellence frameworks, reliability engineering, observability, incident management, DevOps, and secure software development practices.
- Proven track record of successful platform creation or modernization with measurable and significant business impact.
