Senior Electrical Engineer to design, specify, and validate electronic systems for autonomous maritime platforms, focusing on ruggedization and system integration in harsh environments.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead the design, specification, and validation of electrical and electronic systems for autonomous maritime platforms operating in extreme environments.
  2. Develop and document system requirements and specifications for electrical subsystems including power distribution, computing, sensing, and communications.
  3. Create engineering drawings such as one-line diagrams, ladder schematics, networking diagrams, and similar.
  4. Evaluate and select or design components suitable for reliable operation in harsh environments.
  5. Conduct trade studies and benchmarking of commercially available systems and technologies from adjacent industries (automotive, defense, mining).

Skills

Required

  • Schematic and design tools (AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, Zuken, or similar)
  • Low voltage AC (<1000VAC) and DC (12/24/48V) power distribution architectures
  • Fieldbus protocols such as ethernet, CAN, RS485, RS232, and similar
  • EMI/EMC design principles and mitigation techniques
  • Engineering drawings (one-line diagrams, ladder schematics, network drawings)
  • Environmental qualification standards (MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, ISO 16750, or IEC 60068)

Nice to have

  • Marine, defense, automotive, aerospace, or mining vehicle design
  • AC (120/240/480V) power distribution architectures
  • Embedded system and sensor integration
  • Integration of navigation sensors and systems
  • Common networking and external communication methods (LOS/BLOS)

  • Electrical safety and certification standards (UL, CE, or ABS)

What the JD emphasized

  • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 7+ years of professional experience designing electrical and electronic systems for marine, industrial, harsh, or safety-critical environments.
  • Proven experience with rugged electrical system design including power distribution systems, industrial automation, and network design.
  • Understanding of environmental qualification standards such as MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, ISO 16750, or IEC 60068.
