Senior Electrical Engineering Technician

Anduril Anduril · Defense · Costa Mesa, CA · Hardware Engineering : Electrical Engineering : Engine Electrical

This role is for a Senior Electrical Engineering Technician at Anduril, a defense technology company. The technician will be responsible for executing test plans, performing PCB rework and assembly, building cable assemblies, troubleshooting electronic failures, and documenting test data. The role requires hands-on experience in electronics testing, assembly, and rework, with proficiency in reading schematics and soldering. While the company utilizes AI and advanced technologies, this specific role focuses on the hardware engineering and testing aspects, not the direct development or implementation of AI/ML models.

What you'd actually do

  1. Execute comprehensive test plans: set up, configure, and operate benchtop test equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters, signal generators, etc.) to verify performance of PCBs and integrated electronic systems.
  2. Perform precision PCB rework and assembly, including surface-mount (SMT) and through-hole soldering, component replacement, and jumper wire installation under a microscope. This also includes conformal coating and staking operations.
  3. Build, assemble, and modify complex cable and wire harness assemblies, including crimping contacts, soldering various connector types, and routing wires according to schematics and build documentation.
  4. Troubleshoot and diagnose failures in electronic assemblies (PCBs and harnesses) down to the component level using schematics, layouts, and wiring diagrams, then execute necessary repairs.
  5. Accurately document test data, rework actions, assembly details, and failure modes to support engineering analysis and continuous improvement.

Skills

Required

  • 4+ years of hands-on experience in electronics testing, assembly, and rework in an R&D or production environment.
  • Strong technical literacy: Ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics, assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, bill of materials (BOMs), and technical datasheets.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in fine-pitch SMT and through-hole soldering (IPC J-STD-001 or equivalent standards). Experience with PCB rework, component replacement, and modification.
  • Proven experience in building and modifying complex cable and wire harness assemblies, including crimping, soldering various connector types, and routing (IPC-620 or equivalent standards).
  • Proficiency in diagnosing electronic failures to the component level using standard test equipment and documentation.
  • Understanding of product development lifecycles, reliability, and compliance testing.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Self-organizing: Able to prioritize simultaneous tasks in an electronics lab/test environment.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.

Nice to have

  • Associate degree in Electrical/Electronics, Computer, Mechanical Technologies, or related fields.
  • Active IPC-610, IPC-620, and J-STD-001 certifications.
  • Experience using ECAD viewers (Altium, Eagle, OrCAD, etc.) to locate components on a board layout.
  • Familiarity with thermal chambers, vibration tables, and burn-in procedures.

What the JD emphasized
