Senior Engineer role focused on continuous improvement of Lube & Coolant engine subsystems at John Deere. Responsibilities include analyzing field issues, leading complex CI projects, providing technical assistance and mentorship, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to reduce warranty, improve quality, and enhance reliability. Requires product engineering experience and strong problem-solving skills.

What you'd actually do

  1. Analyze field issues by gathering warranty data, reviewing failed components, and requesting field investigations.
  2. Driving quality and system-level thinking into problem identification, root cause rigor, and project execution.
  3. Own and lead most complex CI projects requiring high degree of technical expertise and coordination of multi-disciplinary teams; delivering measurable business impact (warranty, quality, reliability, cost reduction).
  4. Provide technical assistance, training, mentoring, and guidance in project execution, best practices, technical decisions, and knowledge management to other CI Engineers on the team.
  5. Assign projects to CI Engineers, balancing the project complexity, the Engineer expertise and development needs, and the group workload.

Skills

Required

  • 5 or more years of product engineering experience
  • Strong technical skills and leadership potential
  • Excellent communicator, both verbal and written, who thrives on solving problems and working in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Experience solving complex engineering problems

Nice to have

  • Experience and recognition as an expert in one or more engine development competencies
  • Experience with engine lube and coolant systems
  • Engine experience in such areas as manufacturing development, applications, performance, lab and field test
  • User experience with six sigma, systems engineering and other advanced tools/processes to support root cause analysis and problem resolution
  • Experience serving as a mentor to less experienced engineers
  • Experience working on global teams
