What you'd actually do

  1. Conduct investigations of suspected cases of fraud or other illegal activities against the Company, including interviewing, database inquiries, taking statements, and locating sources of information and witnesses.
  2. Evaluate information to determine its credibility, referring, and coordinating investigation assignments to outside agencies, and providing training and support to all departments in the claims handling process.
  3. Handle in-person or phone statements from various parties in an investigation in a way that builds GEICO’s customer base and promotes customer satisfaction through efficient, accurate, and courteous interactions.
  4. Gather a broad range of evidence related to an investigation and draw conclusions based on the information collected to the applicable fraud investigation.
  5. Organize and prioritize investigative volume workloads and stressful situations.

Skills

Required

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or a related field, or five years of insurance claims investigative experience, professional investigation experience with law enforcement agencies, or seven years of professional investigation experience involving economic or insurance related matters
  • Experience handling in-person or phone statements from various parties in an investigation
  • Ability to gather a broad range of evidence related to an investigation and draw conclusions based on the information collected
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize investigative volume workloads and stressful situations
  • Must be able to always maintain a professional attitude and appearance
  • Must be able to document files in a clear, concise, professional written manner
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license, certifications and permits
  • Must be able to lift and carry materials and equipment
  • Must be able to climb on, off, in, around and under vehicles
  • Must be able to exercise caution and awareness of surroundings
  • Must be able to learn and apply large amount of technical and procedural information
  • Knowledge of city, state, and local regulations, legal concepts, case law, medical treatments, and medical terminology

Nice to have

  • 4-year Degree or higher
  • Current or prior SIU investigations experience working in diverse teams across different SIU job functions
  • Experience handling: financial, casualty, bodily injury, worker’s compensation, commercial, marine, auto, property and underwriting fraud investigations
  • Ability to handle complex fraud cases and/or rings
  • Knowledge on how to use public record systems, and/or claims and policy databases to support an investigation
  • Ability to work with minimal direct supervision and manage an active case load
  • Related professional designations (e.g. CIFI, CFE, FCLA, CPCU, etc.)
