Senior Frontend Engineer, Marketing Web

Descript Descript · AI Frontier · San Francisco, CA · Remote · Engineering

Senior Frontend Engineer, Marketing Web at Descript. This role focuses on owning and enhancing the marketing website, which is crucial for driving signups and supporting the enterprise sales motion. The engineer will set technical direction for the CMS and component system, improve release and QA processes, optimize Core Web Vitals and page speed, and manage analytics instrumentation. Responsibilities include building reusable components, maintaining A/B testing setups, ensuring technical quality (accessibility, SEO, cross-browser compatibility), and enabling self-serve content workflows. The role requires strong frontend skills, experience with headless CMS, TypeScript/JavaScript, React, Next.js, and web performance optimization, with comfort in full-stack tasks.

What you'd actually do

  1. Set the technical direction for the CMS and component system — clear architectural boundaries, consistent guardrails, and a foundation that lets marketing and design move fast without fragility
  2. Enhance and maintain a release and QA discipline: rollback processes, staging environments, and deployment confidence
  3. Own Core Web Vitals and page speed performance as a first-class concern — and help connect them to measurable conversion rate impact
  4. Own analytics instrumentation an event taxonomy governance — the technical source of truth for what's happening across the funnel
  5. Build reusable components and page patterns that make new landing pages and campaigns quick to stand up without one-off engineering lifts

Skills

Required

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with a meaningful amount of it focused on web frontend or marketing engineering
  • Experience working with a headless CMS or visual editor (Contentful, [Builder.io](http://Builder.io), Webflow, or similar)
  • Solid foundation in HTML and CSS — you understand the DOM, can debug layout issues without a framework crutch, and take accessibility (a11y) seriously
  • Strong command of TypeScript/JavaScript and React — you write clean, maintainable code and you care about the difference
  • Hands-on experience with Next.js — you understand SSR, SSG, ISR, and when to use which
  • Deep familiarity with web performance: Core Web Vitals, Lighthouse, lazy loading, bundle optimization
  • Comfort with full-stack work: REST APIs, serverless functions, data pipelines, and integrations with third-party services
  • Systems thinker who can hold the big picture (platform strategy, cross-functional dependencies) and the details (a broken event tag, a slow LCP) at the same time
  • Strong communicator: you can translate technical constraints into plain language for marketing and GTM stakeholders, and you know when to push back

Nice to have

  • Prior work at a B2B SaaS or PLG company where the website directly supported both self-serve and sales-led motions
  • Experience with experimentation platforms (LaunchDarkly, Eppo, or custom frameworks)
  • Familiarity with marketing analytics and GTM tooling (Amplitude, Segment, Google Tag Manager, Salesforce integrations)
  • Background in technical SEO — schema markup, crawl optimization, rendering strategy
  • Experience with lead enrichment and inbound routing platforms (Default, Clearbit, RB2B, or similar)
