Senior, Indirect Tax - Transaction Tax

This role is for a Senior, Indirect Tax professional at Deloitte, focusing on state and local indirect tax issues including sales & use and excise tax. Responsibilities include tax planning, consulting, compliance, research, drafting responses, identifying operational efficiencies, audit defense, nexus planning, voluntary disclosures, engagement workflow management, supervising junior staff, preparing client billings, and reviewing tax returns. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field, 3+ years of experience in state and local indirect tax, and preparation/review experience of state and local indirect tax returns. Preferred qualifications include an advanced degree, Big 4 experience, and strong research, writing, presentation, and communication skills. The role operates in a hybrid model and may require up to 10% travel.

What you'd actually do

  1. Researching state and local indirect tax legislation and assisting with drafting client responses and memos.
  2. Identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency and streamline work flow.
  3. Assisting with various state and local indirect tax consulting projects including sales & use and excise tax overpayment reviews, tax implications of sales and purchase transactions, audit defense services, nexus planning, and voluntary disclosures.
  4. Assisting with engagement workflow management and supervising tax consultants and interns on assigned engagements.
  5. Performing a detailed technical review of state and local indirect tax returns on select engagements

Skills

Required

  • Preparation and review experience of state and local indirect tax returns
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or other related field
  • Ability to perform job responsibilities within a hybrid work model that requires US Tax professionals to co-locate in person 2-3 days per week
  • Ability to travel up to 10%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve
  • One of the following active accreditations obtained, in process, or willing and able to obtain

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree such as Masters of Tax or JD and/or LLM
