Senior Interdisciplinary Systems Engineer, Amazon Robotics

Amazon Amazon · Big Tech · DE, Belgium +1 · Hardware Development

Senior Interdisciplinary Systems Engineer role at Amazon Robotics focused on designing, building, and delivering end-to-end robotic systems for fulfillment centers. The role requires a strong mechanical hardware background, systems thinking, and the ability to drive cross-functional tradeoffs for complex hardware-software robotic systems.

What you'd actually do

  1. Define, expand, and explore the design space for complex, multidisciplinary robotics and automation problems, with emphasis on mechanical architecture and physical system constraints.
  2. Design and technically review mechanical modules and subsystems; challenge design decisions with rigorous engineering analysis and first-principles reasoning.
  3. Identify and analyze cross-functional tradeoffs between design alternatives, including impact on performance, schedule, cost, risk, manufacturability, and scale.
  4. Break down and frame problems using concept of operations, use cases, and structural/functional decompositions to clarify needs and align hardware, software, and science teams.
  5. Drive system-level requirements definition and flowdown; write requirements, functional specifications, interface control documents, and design verification plans.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's degree or above in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience analyzing dependencies, tradeoffs, and sensitivities across multi-disciplinary systems
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks or similar CAD experience and understanding of best practices for part design, and advanced assemblies
  • Experience in integrated system design with a strong mechanical hardware focus.
  • Demonstrated ability to design mechanical modules and critically challenge mechanical design decisions at a technical level.
  • Experience leading technical collaborations and creating alignment across diverse groups (hardware, software, controls, program management).

Nice to have

  • Experience in integrated system design of industrial robotic or automated systems.
  • Experience with the full hardware product development lifecycle — from concept through manufacturing transition and field deployment.
  • Experience with actuator/sensor evaluation, selection, and integration into robotic platforms.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods and rapid prototyping techniques (CNC, 3D printing, waterjet, laser cutting).
  • Proficiency with PLM software and Engineering Change Order (ECO) processes.
  • Demonstrated team leadership skills and experience with 1 or more relevant domains: Industrial Automation, Robotic Manipulation, Workcell Automation, Conveyance Systems.
