Expedia Group is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Scientist to build and evaluate GenAI and LLM-powered solutions and AI agents for improving post-booking customer experience, including recommendations, customer service, and trip management. The role involves end-to-end ownership of ML and GenAI projects, from problem framing and data preparation to model/agent design, orchestration, deployment, and continuous evaluation. The scientist will apply expertise in applied ML, Generative AI, and experimentation to design robust evaluation frameworks, ensuring agents are safe, effective, and aligned with business goals. Responsibilities include partnering with product and engineering, mentoring junior scientists, and defining best practices for AI agent development and evaluation. The role tackles complex inference problems and multi-objective optimization in a dynamic customer service environment, aiming to bring context and intelligence to the traveler journey.

What you'd actually do

  1. Own the end-to-end ML lifecycle for medium-to-large projects: from problem framing and ideation through research, prototyping, deployment, and post-launch monitoring.
  2. Design robust, scalable ML systems (batch and/or streaming) in partnership with engineering, including data pipelines, feature computation, and model serving.
  3. Translate ambiguous business problems into well-defined ML problems with clear success metrics and validation strategies.
  4. Develop, evaluate, and iterate on supervised, unsupervised, and deep learning models for prediction, recommendation, and optimization.
  5. Apply causal inference and experimental design (A/B testing) to accurately measure impact and guide decision-making.
