This role is for a Senior Maintenance Technician at Johnson & Johnson, responsible for repairing and maintaining plant equipment and facilities to ensure safe and efficient operations. Key responsibilities include diagnosing and resolving equipment issues, advancing proactive maintenance strategies, optimizing maintenance planning, enabling process improvements, managing spare parts inventory, building team capability through training, championing safety and compliance, and collaborating cross-functionally. Requires a high school diploma, 10 years of industrial mechanic experience, and proficiency in computer-based systems and maintenance management systems. Experience in a regulated industry is preferred.

What you'd actually do

  1. Diagnose and resolve equipment issues: Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, instrumentation, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations.
  2. Advance proactive maintenance strategies: Develop, implement, and continuously improve preventive and predictive maintenance programs for critical equipment to maximize uptime and performance.
  3. Partner to optimize maintenance planning: Collaborate with planning and scheduling teams to proactively coordinate maintenance activities, minimize downtime, and support seamless production operations.
  4. Enable process improvements and innovation: Interpret technical drawings and specifications to support minor process changes, equipment modifications, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  5. Ensure readiness of maintenance resources: Manage and optimize spare parts inventory to maintain availability of critical components and support uninterrupted operations.

Skills

Required

  • 10 years of experience as an industrial mechanic or in a related field
  • Demonstrated ability to independently replace pump mechanical seals
  • Ability to fabricate and install threaded piping in alignment with engineering drawings
  • Experience erecting, locating, and anchoring equipment according to technical specifications
  • Ability to work safely in physically demanding and potentially hazardous environments, including chemical handling
  • Proficiency in computer-based systems, including data entry, report generation, and analysis using tools such as spreadsheets and reporting software
  • Familiarity with building automation systems (DDC), computerized maintenance management systems (e.g., Maximo or SAP)
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and repair a wide range of site equipment in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Working knowledge of Process Excellence, Lean, or continuous improvement principles

Nice to have

  • Technical school training in a mechanical trade
  • Experience in a highly regulated industry (e.g., pharmaceutical, chemical, or other cGMP environments)
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, identify opportunities, and act on solutions to improve operations
  • SMRP preferred
