Senior Manager, Procurement Operations - Hardware

OpenAI OpenAI · AI Frontier · San Francisco, CA · Finance

This role is for a Senior Manager of Procurement Operations focused on Hardware at OpenAI. The primary responsibility is to own and manage the operational flow of goods and hardware purchasing, from request intake to purchase orders, supplier coordination, and invoice support. The role involves redesigning workflows, improving systems, and implementing automation and AI-enabled processes to scale operations. It requires a strong understanding of procurement, supply chain, fiscal controls, and accounting practices, with experience in complex physical-goods environments. The role is hands-on, requiring both operational execution and process redesign.

What you'd actually do

  1. Own procurement operations outcomes for assigned hardware business unit teams and serve as their primary Procurement Operations DRI.
  2. Redesign workflows, intake paths, routing logic, and operating rhythms so hardware procurement operations can scale without linear headcount growth.
  3. Lead hardware and goods procurement operations from request intake through PO creation, PO maintenance, supplier coordination, receiving readiness, and invoice-readiness handoffs.
  4. Drive alignment with hardware stakeholders to clarify requirements, resolve blockers, and keep procurement activity moving with the right level of control.
  5. Ensure requests and POs are complete, policy-aligned, audit-ready, and supported by clean operational data.
