Senior Mechanical Engineer

Joby Aviation Joby Aviation · Robotics · Concord, CA · Flight Research

Joby Aviation is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their flight research team, focusing on the design and integration of mechanical systems for autonomy in aircraft. The role involves leading the development and certification of mechanical installations, designing subsystems, and collaborating with various engineering teams to ensure avionics systems meet program needs. Requires a strong understanding of aircraft systems, integration, and certification processes.

What you'd actually do

  1. Own the design of assemblies and systems, taking ideas from the conceptual stage through to installation on an autonomous aircraft.
  2. Package custom electronics with complex interfaces, adequate thermal performance, and reliability in harsh environments.
  3. Draft engineering drawings and create work instructions for complex assemblies, collaborating with technicians during tests and integration.
  4. Interface with internal and external partners to source and produce parts.
  5. Collaborate with other stakeholders (e.g. GNC, electrical, flight test engineers, test pilots) throughout all stages of the design.
