Senior Mechanical Engineer

Uber Uber · Consumer · Sunnyvale, CA · Engineering

Senior Mechanical Engineer to own and drive the mechanical structural design and system integration of critical vehicle subsystems, including complex sensor arrays and computation modules for Uber's autonomous data collection fleet. Responsibilities include DFM, cross-functional collaboration, and managing hardware from concept to mass production.

What you'd actually do

  1. Drive mechanical structural design projects as the end-to-end owner of a mechanical module, taking full responsibility for on-time delivery of design release and product launch. You will contribute to architecture definition and execute the integration of sensor systems, computation modules, and cabin hardware from the requirement collection phase through to final launch.
  2. Build and iterate on the integration of mechanical structures, enclosures, sensors, harnesses, PCBAs, and thermal modules at both the component level and the overall vehicle module level.
  3. Execute mechanical component validation and testing by drafting comprehensive test plans, customizing testing profiles, building test fixtures, and collaborating closely with external labs.
  4. Partner with local and global cross-functional teams, OEMs, and manufacturing vendors to shepherd projects through design, DFM, DFA, prototyping, iteration builds, and into mass production.
  5. Create and maintain essential engineering documentation—including BOMs, SOPs, and troubleshooting instructions—and provide hands-on training and handovers to technicians.
