Senior Mechanical Testing Engineer, Platforms, Google Cloud

Google Google · Big Tech · Taipei, Taiwan

Senior Mechanical Test Engineer for Google Cloud Platforms, focusing on hardware design, testing, and product development of prototype systems. Responsibilities include test plan development, fixture design, execution, failure analysis, and driving process improvements. Requires expertise in mechanical, structural, and testing methodologies using specialized equipment.

What you'd actually do

  1. Own Mechanical Hard Disk Drive (HDD) qualification testing and serve as Vibration Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead root-cause-analysis for HDD qualification issues, utilizing historical data and operational assessments to resolve performance degradation.
  2. Drive mechanical characterization by Modal Testing and Laser Doppler Vibrometry (LDV) to identify structural resonances and failure modes.
  3. Design, produce, and assemble mechanical parts and assemblies for products and test fixtures; setup and conduct tests of testing units and investigate proposals for improving structures/assembly.
  4. Deliver comprehensive test planning and execution for HDD qualification and mechanical stress testing (e.g., transportation, operational vibration) through the entire product development life-cycle.
  5. Establish ownership of Shock and Vibration (S&V) testing for Product Introduction Engineering (PIE) Taiwan (TWN) programs, driving the validation of structural integrity and performance across rack, tray, and component levels.

Skills

  • 5 years of experience in the mechanical field.

Nice to have

  • Master's degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 8 years of experience in mechanical testing at the rack, chassis, and component levels for server products, including shock and vibration, rotational vibration, and mechanical HDD qualification.
  • Experience with test plan development, with the ability to lead root cause analysis and propose design fixes.
  • Experience with modal testing/FEA modal simulation, or the mechanical design/simulation of server products.
  • Experience with test fixture design, test scripts, calibration, and troubleshooting, as well as failure analysis and corrective actions.
