Senior Mission Systems Engineer, C2 Networking, Air Dominance & Strike, Active Clearance

Anduril Anduril · Defense · Costa Mesa, CA · Air Dominance & Strike : Air Dominance & Strike Engineering : Mission Systems Engineering

Senior Mission Systems Engineer focused on C2 Networking for autonomous air systems in a defense technology company. Responsibilities include architecting resilient network topologies, designing data flows, selecting and integrating networking hardware/software, building simulation environments, and developing automated test scripts. Requires extensive networking experience, systems engineering knowledge, and a Secret/Top Secret security clearance.

What you'd actually do

  1. Architect and evolve resilient, multi-classification network topologies that keep autonomous air platforms connected across contested and degraded RF environments
  2. Design and validate unicast and multicast data flows end-to-end -- from onboard compute through tactical datalinks to ground-based C2 nodes -- latency, throughput, and reliability
  3. Own the selection, integration, and lab-to-flight qualification of networking hardware and software, including tactical radios, routers, and encryption devices
  4. Build and maintain network simulation and emulation environments to model mission scenarios, characterize link budgets, and stress-test failover behavior
  5. Develop automated test scripts and traffic-generation harnesses (Python, Bash) to validate QoS policies, multicast routing (IGMP/PIM), and unicast routing (OSPF/BGP/PBR) under realistic load

Skills

Required

  • 7+ years experience as a network engineer
  • Expert level understanding of both unicast and multicast data flows
  • Expert level knowledge of multicast and its supporting protocols including IGMP & PIM
  • Expert level knowledge of unicast and supporting protocols including but not limited to OSPF, BGP, PBR
  • Expert level knowledge of Quality of Service and CBWFQ
  • Experience with unicast and multicast traffic generators
  • Advanced knowledge of Linux based operating systems
  • Advanced knowledge of troubleshooting techniques at layers 1-7
  • Advanced knowledge of systems engineering processes including test case development, requirements enumeration, unit vs. system level testing
  • Ability to decompose mission-level and system-level requirements into network engineering specifications and coordinate with requirements management to ensure traceability
  • Proficiency in test script development using common languages (Python, Bash, Ruby)
  • U.S. Secret security clearance
  • U.S. Top Secret security clearance

Nice to have

  • Experience with cross-domain solutions (CDS), multi-level security (MLS) network architectures, or NSA-evaluated network devices such as HAIPE inline encryptors or Type 1 cryptographic equipment
  • Experience with mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs), delay-tolerant networking (DTN), or dynamic routing in high-mobility, topology-variable environments
  • Experience with network modeling and simulation tools such as EMANE, ns-3, CORE, or equivalent environments for evaluating network performance and conducting trade studies
  • Experience managing vendor or subcontractor technical deliverables, including COTS/GOTS evaluation, technical interchange meetings, and integration milestone tracking
  • Familiarity with COMSEC procedures, key management infrastructure (KMI/SKL), and handling of cryptographic material
  • Familiarity with tactical radios and waveforms used in DoD operational environments
  • Familiarity with End-to-End RF integration including Unmanned Aerial Systems
  • Hands on experience with network design, test, and operation of communications systems over various RF apertures

What the JD emphasized

  • Must hold a U.S. Secret security clearance
  • Must be able to obtain and hold a U.S. Top Secret security clearance
