Senior Photonic Engineer, Machine Learning

This role focuses on designing and developing optical interconnect technologies for machine learning systems, specifically for Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) systems. The engineer will work on scaling future generation machine learning systems by creating next-generation optical interconnects and exploring optical technologies to improve computing system efficiencies. While the role supports ML systems, the core craft is in photonic engineering, not AI/ML model development.

What you'd actually do

  1. Design low-cost and high-speed optical transceivers for data center applications.
  2. Develop optical systems and architectures to scale Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) and Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) superpods.
  3. Identify, research, and evaluate emerging photonic networking technologies.
  4. Explore optical technologies to disaggregate and improve the efficiencies of future computing systems.

Skills

Required

  • PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or related field
  • 4 years of experience in high-speed datacom technical environment
  • Experience in digital coherent optical transmissions
