Senior Power Electronics Control System Engineer

John Deere John Deere · Industrial · Fargo, ND +1 · Product Engineering (CA)

This role focuses on developing and implementing electric machine and power electronics control algorithms, deploying them on FPGA using an RTL design flow. It involves system-level modeling, simulation, and validation (HIL/lab/field), with collaboration across hardware, software, and system teams. The role also includes mentoring junior engineers.

What you'd actually do

  1. Develop and implement electric machine and power electronics control algorithms, with deployment on FPGA using a Register Transfer Level (RTL) design flow in SystemVerilog
  2. Perform system-level modeling and simulation of control algorithms, and validation (HIL/lab/field) to ensure control performance
  3. Collaborate with hardware, software, and system teams to deliver high-performance electric drive solutions
  4. Mentor and guide engineers on control design, modeling, and validation best practices

Skills

Required

  • 5 years of experience in power electronics and/or electric machine design and control development
  • Demonstrated experience with simulation tools for power electronics or electric drives
  • 3 years of hands-on testing experience (HIL, lab, or field validation)
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree with focus on power electronics or electric machines
  • Experience deploying control algorithms to FPGA or other embedded targets (MCU, DSP)
  • Experience with RTL design flow
  • Experience with power electronics hardware design or integration
  • Experience with advanced control techniques (e.g., observers, MPC, sensorless control)
  • Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) systems
