Senior Product Engineer

Microsoft Microsoft · Big Tech · Gelugor, Penang, Malaysia · Silicon Engineering

This role is for a Senior Product Engineer focused on the manufacturing and silicon aspects of Microsoft's cloud hardware infrastructure, including Azure Cobalt chips. The engineer will drive alignment across design, test, packaging, and manufacturing teams, manage yield ramps, lead problem-solving for complex issues, and leverage data analytics for decision-making to ensure high quality and cost efficiency in hardware production. While the role is within a team supporting AI missions and mentions AI-driven manufacturing systems as a preferred qualification, the core responsibilities are in traditional silicon manufacturing and product engineering, not direct AI/ML model development or deployment.

What you'd actually do

  1. Drive alignment across design, test, packaging, manufacturing, and supply chain teams
  2. Lead complex problems solving under ramp pressure (excursions, bottlenecks, supply constraints)
  3. Influence program decisions with data-driven insights and clear trade-offs
  4. Own yield ramp from NPI to HVM: yield monitoring, DOE, excursion management, and continuous improvement
  5. Lead structured failure analysis and RMA feedback loops to improve silicon quality and manufacturability

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Semiconductor Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 8+ years in product / test / manufacturing engineering for advanced silicon (CPU, GPU, AI SoC)
  • Proven track record delivering NPI → HVM ramp in complex silicon programs

Nice to have

  • Experience scaling hyperscale / datacenter silicon programs
  • Deep understanding of advanced packaging (2.5D/3D, chiplets) and system-level interactions
  • Familiarity with data/AI-driven manufacturing systems (e.g., predictive yield, telemetry analytics)
  • Strong cross-functional leadership and stakeholder management

What the JD emphasized

  • advanced silicon (CPU, GPU, AI SoC)
  • delivering NPI → HVM ramp in complex silicon programs
