Senior Propulsion Mechanical Engineer

Joby Aviation Joby Aviation · Robotics · San Carlos, CA · Powertrain & Electronics

Mechanical Design Engineer responsible for the design, analysis, and testing of power converters for electric aircraft, focusing on structural, thermal, and insulating aspects. Requires strong CAD, FEA, CFD, and first-principles problem-solving skills.

What you'd actually do

  1. Modeling and designing components and assemblies using 3D CAD software
  2. Performing analyses to optimize designs for various factors, including thermal (CFD), structural (FEA), and design for assembly/test (DFA/DFT)
  3. Solving complex packaging issues related to thermal management, electrical isolation, sealing, interconnection, shock/vibration management, and electromagnetic interference (EMI)
  4. Assisting in engineering prototype builds, fabricating components, and designing test jigs and fixtures for validation
  5. Running validation tests, collecting and analyzing lab data, investigating the root cause of failures, and implementing product improvements
