Senior Service Engineer

Microsoft Microsoft · Big Tech · Redmond, WA +1 · Service Engineering

Senior Service Engineer role focused on administering and governing Microsoft 365 and AI administration surfaces, including Microsoft 365 Copilot and Copilot Studio, across multiple internal tenants. The role involves defining configurations, driving automation and policy as code for baselines and drift detection, and responding to AI plane risks at scale. It requires a strong security mindset and collaboration with software engineers.

What you'd actually do

  1. You will administer A365 across many internal tenants: tenant configuration, admin policy, and operation of the M365 admin control plane.
  2. You will administer AI capabilities in M365: Microsoft 365 Copilot admin controls, Copilot Studio governance, agent and connector permissions, Graph based data access boundaries, and AI usage and audit telemetry.
  3. You will define baselines, policy, and operational requirements; partner with SWE to drive automation, policy as code, and drift detection that implement them across the fleet.
  4. You will operate the admin and AI surfaces: monitor health and risk signals, triage incidents, and respond on call for what you own.
  5. You will interface with M365 workload teams to land changes the admin and AI control planes depend on; partner with Copilot and security teams on multitenant governance requirements.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Data Science, Cybersecurity, or related field AND 3+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, service engineering, systems engineering, or industrial controls OR equivalent experience.

Nice to have

  • 6+ years of professional service engineering experience, with significant time owning live production services.
  • Hands on experience administering M365 at scale, including operating Microsoft Graph and PowerShell based admin tooling and policy automation.
  • Working familiarity with administering AI capabilities in M365 (Microsoft 365 Copilot admin controls, Copilot Studio, Graph data access governance) or transferable experience administering new SaaS admin surfaces as they emerged.
  • Security mindset applied in practice: data access controls, least privilege admin patterns, audit coverage, and secure by default operations.
  • Comfortable reading and contributing to automation code in PowerShell, Python, C#, or TypeScript, and partnering effectively with SWE owners of that automation.
  • Experience designing, instrumenting, and operating live services with on call ownership.
  • Multitenant operations experience: enforcing baselines, detecting drift, and remediating across many M365 tenants.
  • Experience governing Microsoft 365 Copilot and Copilot Studio at scale: agent lifecycle, connector permissions, data access boundaries, and usage telemetry.
  • Experience with Purview (DLP, retention, eDiscovery) where it intersects the admin surface.
  • Experience with Geneva, IcM, Kusto, or comparable telemetry and live site tooling.
