Senior Show Lighting Designer responsible for leading and supporting the design implementation and installation of lighting for Disney theme parks, resorts, attractions, and cruise ships. This role involves creating design estimates, developing lighting databases and drawings, directing field implementation, and managing complex negotiations with stakeholders. The position requires extensive experience in theatrical and environmental lighting design, knowledge of lighting fixtures, controls, LED systems, and familiarity with BIM/CAD software.

What you'd actually do

  1. The Senior Show Lighting Designer leads and supports the design implementation and lighting installation effort for the project interfacing and coordinating with the project team including Show Lighting Designers whose specialty is in lighting control.
  2. The Senior Show Lighting Designer works independently as a lead on multiple design projects up to the Land Level.
  3. Create Show Lighting Design Estimates and Lighting Work Strategy.
  4. Develop Show Lighting database, schedule, dimmer panels, Show Lighting drawings.
  5. Direct in field implementation of Show Lighting design.

Skills

Required

  • 5+ years of experience in a related professional environment
  • Experienced Lighting designer
  • Proven ability to work on multiple projects and drive results
  • Ability to communicate lighting intent and ideas verbally and visually
  • Working knowledge of theatrical design and technical knowledge of lighting design and installation, including methods of construction
  • Working knowledge of architectural and facility requirements and integration of lighting products into an attraction
  • Knowledge of new and developing technologies in lighting
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Able to work well independently and in groups
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge of theatrical lighting fixtures, theatrical controls, and control distribution including DMX and Ethernet
  • Knowledge of LED lighting systems including the design of power/data equipment to control LED lighting
  • Familiarity with BIM and CAD software and drafting ability
  • Ability to operate and work off lifts, ladders, and catwalks at heights
  • Appreciation and skill in the aesthetic processes of lighting and lighting design
  • Domestic and International travel required
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

  • Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks
  • Master’s degree (Theater, Art, Design, Architecture)
